Project Todi - Sahaja Yoga versus Diabetes
Introduction
Sahaja Yoga uses a meditation technique that harmonises the subtle system through the re-balancing of energy centres called "Chakras". Diabetes manifests within them as a disorder, due to an imbalance especially in the 2nd and 3rd chakras.
The intention of this study is, in fact, to treat the above-mentioned chakras, through Sahaja Yoga meditation, with the aim of preventing, as much as possible, the imbalance which is created in diabetic patients. The effects of this experience should, in fact, be evident through positive signs in the reduction of the illness and, at the subjective level, an improvement in the general condition of the patients.
Methodology
1 - Evaluation of patients available for the research project, according to established procedures
Worksheet for Observations and Information
2 - Fomation of two groups: A = Study Group; B = Control Group
Descriptions of The Groups
3 - Practise of Sahaja Yoga meditation for the Study Group
The volunteers who take part in the project will participate in one or two sessions of Sahaja Yoga meditation per week and also will be taught how to practise it at home for the rest of the time. During the Group sessions, the basic principals of this method will be explained and then put into practise. The meditation at home will be of about 45 minutes daily, divided into two sessions, one in the morning and the other in the evening.
In the first stage, the Study Group will take part in around 25 sessions of meditation.
Each session will last approximately one hour and thirty minutes.
During this period the Control Group, which will be homogeneous with the Study Group, will be assessed in the same way, without taking part in meditation sessions.
In the second stage, the Control Group will in turn become the Study Group, and will take part in around 25 sessions of meditation of the same kind as stated above.
Differently from Stage One, during the meditation, the participants will listen to and/or sing specific Indian compositions (Ragas), in collaboration with the
Indian Section of the Arrigo Perdrollo Music Conservatory of Vicenza. It is from one of these (Raga Todi) that the name of this project was derived.
Each session of this stage will last for about two hours.
For more details on the stages, please see the
timetable of the project.
4 - Assessment of the two groups according to established procedures.
In order to measure the effects of the meditation on the population samples as above, the participants will be assessed, according to established procedures, at the beginning, middle and end of the meditation cycle.
These assessments will be carried out with the help of Dr. Maria Valeria Baldelli of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
5 - Analysis of the data obtained in order to evaluate any changes in the patients who practised the meditation.
